Kaali (Black) Dal Recipe

Kaali (Black) Dal Recipe Ingredients:

  • Three-fourth cup black gram dal,

  • Quarter cup green gram dal,

  • One large finely chopped onion,

  • One finely chopped tomato,

  • One tbsp ginger garlic paste,

  • Four-five finely chopped green chillies,

  • Quarter tbsp turmeric powder,

  • One tbsp lemon juice,

  • Three-four tbsps ghee,

  • One tbsp chopped coriander,

  • One tbsp each cumin and mustard seeds,

  • One pinche asafoetida,

  • One tbsp sugar,

  • One bay leaf,

  • Four-five cloves,

  • One inch cinnamon stick and

  • Salt to taste
  • How To Make Kaali (Black) Dal:

  • Washing dal,pressure cook in two cups water.Cooling the dal,remove from cooker.

  • Mash very lightly with a spoon.

  • Heating half the ghee in a deep saucepan,add seeds,asafoetida,bay leaf,cloves and cinnamon stick.Allow to splutter.Add turmeric.

  • Adding ginger garlic paste,fry for a minute.

  • Now adding onions,fry till light brown.Then add tomatoes and green chillies.

  • Fry for two-three minutes more.

  • Adding dal to the above mixture,let it boil.

  • Now add salt,sugar and lemon juice.

  • Take dal in serving dish.

  • Heat remaining ghee in a small saucepan.

  • Add chopped coriander to the hot ghee and pour over dal immediately.

  • Stir gently.Serve with hot parathas or rice.
