Garlic (Lasoon) Dal

Garlic/Lasoon Dal Recipe

Garlic/Lasoon Dal Ingredients:

  • Half cup yellow moong dal,

  • Quarter cup masoor dal,

  • Quarter cup toor dal,

  • Three-four flakes crushed garlic,

  • One inch piece crushed or grated ginger,

  • Four-five finely chopped green chillies,

  • One stalk curry leaves,

  • One tbsp finely chopped coriander,

  • Two finely chopped onions,

  • Half tbsp turmeric powder,

  • One-two pinches asafoetida(hing),

  • Three-four tbsps ghee,

  • Half tbsp cumin & mustard seeds each and

  • Salt to taste
  • How To Make Garlic/Lasoon Dal:

  • Washing dals together,drain off the water.

  • Heating ghee in a saucepan,fry the onion till dark brown and crisp.Drain out any liquid left.

  • Removing two tbsps ghee from the saucepan,keep it aside.Add ginger and garlic to the rest.

  • Frying for a minute,add dals and stir for about two-three minutes.

  • Now adding about three cups water,transfer the mixture to a cooker container.

  • Adding the turmeric to the dal,pressure cook till done.

  • Cooling cooker,remove the dal.Stir gently.

  • Transfering to serving dish,add chopped coriander and fried onions.

  • Reheating the ghee kept aside,add seeds,asafoetida and curry leaves.

  • Now pour over dal while spluttering and stir gently.

  • Serve hot with steamed rice or parathas.
