Chholar Dal Recipe

Chholar Dal Ingredients:

  • One cup soaked chick peas,

  • Quarter tbsp turmeric,

  • Two green chillies,

  • Two tbspsgrounded cumin,

  • Two tbsps raisins,

  • Two tbsps vegetable oil,

  • One bay leaf,

  • One dried red chilly,

  • Five-six cardamom pods,

  • One inch cinnamon stick,

  • Two-three cloves,

  • Quarter tbsp Kalonji,

  • One tbsp seeded & minced green chilly,

  • Two tbsps grated coconut,

  • Half tbsp garam masala,

  • Ghee(if needed and as required) and

  • Salt to taste
  • How To Make Chholar Dal:

  • Cook chickpeas in water with turmeric & whole chilly until they are very tender.

  • Discarding whole chillies,add cumin and salt.Now remove from heat.

  • Pouring one cup of the dal mixture in a blender,add a little water
    if necessary.Return to the pan,add raisins & bring back to a
    simmer.Keep warm.

  • Heating oil in a small skillet,fry bay leaf & red chilly for two minutes.

  • Fry cardamom,cinnamon and cloves for 30 seconds.Adding kalonji,fry a few seconds longer.

  • Lowering the flame,add minced chilly and grated coconut.

  • Cook for a few seconds,stirring constantly.

  • Now removing from heat,pour over the dal.

  • Let it cook a couple more minutes and remove from the flame.

  • Garnish with lemon wedges,sprinkle with cilantro.

  • Serve hot!
