Spicy Daal

Ingredients:

1.Split red gram 1cup,

2.Green chillies 5 nos slit,

3.Corriander leaves 1 tbspn chopped,

4.Turmeric powder 1/2 tspn,

5.Coconut 1/2 cup grated,

6.Salt use as required,

7.Mustard seeds 1 tspn,

8.Cumin seeds 1 tspn,

9.2 chopped tomatoes ,

10.Refined oil 1 tbspn and

11.One sliced onion

Method:

1.Wash and soak the gram for 30 minutes.

2.Grind the grated coconut with a little water to a smooth paste in a blender.Keep aside.

3.Fry the sliced onions till golden brown. Remove and keep aside.

4.Cook the gram in a pressure cooker with just sufficient water to cook the dal until soft .

5.Remove the lid of the cooker and add the green chillies,turmeric powder tomatoes and salt.Cook for 3 minutes.

6.When the tomatoes are cooked add the coconut paste.Mix thoroughly.

7.Cook for a minute and remove from the flame.

8.Heat the oil in a pan.Add the mustard seeds,when they crackle add the cumin seeds.

9.Fry for a few seconds over a low flame.Pour over the dal.

10.Serve hot garnished with the fried onions and the chopped corriander leaves.
