Chicken Shakuti Recipe
(Chicken in Coconut Gravy)

Ingredients:

  • One Kg chicken medium sized pieces,

  • Five-six tbsps ghee,

  • Eight-ten onions,

  • Juice of two limes,

  • Thick and thin milk extracted from one coconut and

  • One coconut-grate and roast with two of the onions(sliced lengthwise) and a little ghee,until coconut turns pale brown.

    For roasting and grinding:
  • Roasted coconut and onion mixture,

  • Two tbsps coriander seeds,

  • Five pepper corns,

  • Ten-fifteen dried red chillies,

  • One tbsp turmeric,

  • Four-six cloves,

  • Half inch piece cinnamon,

  • Half nutmeg,

  • Three-fourth tbsp aniseed and

  • One tbsp poppy seeds
  • How To Make Chicken Shakuti:

  • Chopping four of the onions,fry until they turn light brown.

  • Add the chicken and light brown oninons.

  • Adding the grounded paste,fry for a minute and then add the thin coconut milk.

  • Now cook the mixture until chicken is tender.

  • Cut the remaining onions into quarters,adding to the chicken.

  • Cook on high flame for a few minutes then lower flame.

  • Now add the thick coconut milk.

  • Add salt as required.

  • Simmer on low flame for 10 minutes or so until sauce/gravy has thickened.

  • Sprinkle some lime juice over it prior to serving.
